Welcome to Harper’s Cottage
Harper’s Cottage was an old stone-built agricultural building but was substantially rebuilt about 25 years and since then has had both a kitchen and conservatory added to it. Although it is all on one level, it is impractical for wheelchair access as there are steps up to get inside and some narrow places within the cottage.
Parking – is down the main drive way and outside the front door so there are only a few steps to take between your car and the entrance hallway. If you have a very large car you might prefer to reverse in so that it’s easy to unpack and also to drive out. Smaller cars can turn using the area alongside the rear of the cottage.
Front Entrance – the front door is 800mm wide and is a step up into a small entrance hallway where you can hang coats and jackets and leave shoes. The entrance hallway is off the kitchen.
Kitchen – the kitchen has a large American fridge-freezer, gas oven (with extractor) and dishwasher as well as the usual small appliances. There is a table with four chairs that can be folded out to seat 6. From the kitchen there is a second door with a small step down which leads out onto the patio and hot tub.
Patio – this is a large area paved with high slip resistant porcelain tiles but nevertheless when there has been rain followed by freezing conditions then caution needs to be used! The patio wall is about three feet on the end and sides down onto grass so again, care needs to be exercised and only the steps provided used for going down to the garden.
Hallway – leads off the kitchen to other rooms in the cottage, is well lit and has a cast-iron radiator along the wall.
Bedroom – accessed from the hallway. Some motion activated low level lighting has been placed on the bottom of the far bedside table. Entrance to this side of the bed (window side) is fine but a little narrower than the other side. The bed is a King size.
Sitting room – is a slate floor with rugs and has a writing desk and chair at one end and a door out to a conservatory at the other. There is a big two-seater sofa and a leather wing-back chair with side table. In the alcove is a Victorian rotating bookcase which has been converted into a cocktail bar and should be turned slowly!
Conservatory – leads off living room and has electric underfloor heating. Child gate is installed so that dogs can be kept in this area if guests wish. A door from the conservatory leads out over a step onto the patio.
Garden – the lawn slopes gently down and is about 50m long. At the far end it borders a neighbouring farm and there is a barbed wire fence here, not all of it visible so we suggest keeping dogs away from this area. There are steps down to another field which is fully enclosed and a gate from this field into another small grassed area which is open to the main house so caution needs to be taken when going through the gate to make sure our own dogs are not about! There is a further gate down to a four acre field which is fenced but we would always suggest dogs be accompanied in this field. Smaller breeds could get out in a couple of places.
The field is quite steep at the top end so good soles are suggested at all times.
Pets – we take up to three dogs in Harper’s and there is a kennel to the side of the cottage which can be locked.
Anti-allergenic bedding can be provided on request (i.e. non-feather duvets & pillows).
Public Transport – the closest railway stations are Liskeard and Saltash (but the most practical is Plymouth, which is 10 miles away).
Nearest shops – there is a Waitrose 16 minutes away in Saltash and a Tesco Superstore 5 mins away in Callington.
